Purpose
A long memory for the land
The Ecological Archive is a long-term effort to observe, record, and organize
information about living landscapes. Through field observations, drone imagery,
sensor networks, soil surveys, and ecological datasets, the archive collects
information that helps reveal how landscapes actually function.
Amelia is involved with the project as a member of the Board of Directors and serves
as Secretary.
Why It Matters
Every pasture, forest, and watershed contains patterns that unfold slowly over
time. Most of these changes are difficult to see because they unfold across
seasons, years, and decades. The archive exists to make those changes visible.
Working Principle
These datasets are designed to be highly correlatable so relationships between
soil, plants, animals, climate, and human management can be studied together
rather than in isolation. It is not just a database. It is a long memory for the land.
